Mallnitz lies 1,200 metres above sea level in a high valley to the south of the main chain of the Alps and nestles amidst the impressive mountains of the Hohe Tauern.

The town and its environs have lots to offer, especially for hikers: Depending on your mood, good hiking can be found on the flat valley floors and gentle pastures – a total of more than 150 kilometres of hiking trails are available.
For everyone who wants to go higher: there are seven peaks over three thousand metres around Mallnitz. Well-marked trails lead to the staffed cabin refuges, where a “Bauernjause” rewards your effort. The Ankogel mountain cable cars simplify the ascent into the world of rocks, flowering mountain pastures as well as rare flora and fauna.
