Alpe-Adria-Trail: From the Grossglockner to the sea.
From summer 2012 the nature paradise of Carinthia will be enticing hikers to take an inspiring journey of discovery on the new Alpe Adria Trail. This leads for 750 kilometres, from the perpetual ice in Carinthia through Slovenia to the Italian Adriatic.
We are off on a varied journey of discovery covering approx. 750 kilometres. Through three countries – Austria, Italy and Slovenia – and three cultures. From the foot of the majestic Grossglockner to the azure blue sea. On the Alpe-Adria-Trail – with heavenly views in the “Garden of Eden”. With views over a well balanced mix of glorious spectacles of nature, alpine water experiences and a fascinating world of animals and plants. Along lakes, streams and rivers until we reach our destination, the Adriatic.
Out into the untouched nature and exploring the open ground on skis ... Rucksack, climbing skins and touring bindings are the basic equipment needed for a trip into Carinthia’s ski tour paradises.
For millions of years the elemental force of water has moulded and shaped the mountainous landscape of the Hohe Tauern! In the process it has left behind for us masterpieces of the Creation: waterfalls plummeting down into the valleys over sky-high rock faces and through deep and mysterious gorges.
Trekking – from one place to another. In rhythm with nature and looking it in the eye. This is the magic to which more and more people are yielding. In Nepal, in New Zealand, or on the road to Santiago. And in the Hohe Tauern too! From refuge hut to refuge hut, past mountain lakes and tarns, waterfalls and glaciers, and up to high passes. Time and again in the valleys and mountains new miniature worlds will reveal themselves before your very eyes.
“Seven Summits”? This phrase makes tacit reference to the highest summits of the seven continents. Don’t worry though; we don’t intend to climb Mount Everest! But we have selected seven terrific target summits for you, all in the Hohe Tauern National Park. We cordially invite you to an unforgettable expedition across the entire National Park!
Off the prepared pistes another adventure begins: if you really want to feel the untouched landscape up close, you had better put the skins on your touring skis and conquer the Carinthian winter step by step. Only here, far away from the hustle and bustle, with nothing but the mountain and the sky, will you experience this time of the year at its most beautiful.
